In 1972, Berwick Forge & Fabricating, of Berwick, Pennsylvania began producing modern 50’ sliding door box cars which featured their new corrugated non-terminating “sine-wave” ends. Initially sold to over 35 railroads across the nation, these box cars were an unfortunate casualty of the economic recession of the late 1970’s and Berwick was forced to stop production in 1982. However, Berwick’s 50’ hauler found a place in railroad history through a strong second hand market that continues even today.

Features:
  • Ready-to-run
  • Full under body detail with brake rigging
  • Overhanging X-panel roof
  • Non-terminating sine wave ends
  • Separately applied wire grabs
  • Detailed end ladders and brake gear
  • Accurate painting and printing
  • Blackened metal wheels
  • AccuMate® couplers

NEW HO Gunderson MAXI-IV Well Cars & Container Sets

Intermodal container service is one of the most popular types of freight service on rails today. The Gunderson MAXI-IV double-stack car is the mainstay of the U.S. domestic double-stack car fleet. Providing an optimum balance between tare weight and capacity, the Gunderson MAXI-IV is a 3-unit articulated double-stack car that can handle containers from 20-foot to 53-foot long in the well and containers 40-foot to 57-foot in the top, or double-stacked, position.

Just like the real thing, Kato’s HO Scale MAXI-IV Double Stack Well car uses a steel compound plastic well and smooth rolling metal wheels to give the cars weight for flawless tracking, even when the cars are running empty. With Kato’s magnetic 53’ Intermodal containers, however, there’s no need to run the cars empty as each two pack includes a pair of crisply molded magnetic containers that grip both the well and each other tightly for stable operation without the need for glue or adhesives!
